Welcome to Gastra, a boutique shop and restaurant inspired by traditional Greek cuisine and the ancient cooking technique of gastra. The name "Gastra" is derived from the Latin word "gastro" meaning gastronomy, a term that is familiar to many. The founders of Gastra, both hailing from Epirus, have a great love for the traditional gastra, and have based several recipes on this technique, including octopus, beef cheeks with giants, and chickpeas with lamb.

At Gastra, we import most of our products ourselves, working with several excellent partners and friends of ours in Greece. We support Greek producers and offer our customers authentic products made with love and respect for tradition, including several PDO products. Although transportation can be quite challenging, we coordinate with our professional partners to ensure that we collect products from all over Greece. We import traditional pasta, feta pop, graviera from Ithaca, olive oil, nuts, wines from boutique producers, egg yolk from Messolonghi, yogurt from sheep, goat, cow and donkey milk from Ioannina, cheeses from Amari, and their incredible galomizithra.

At Gastra, we strive to change the perception of Greek cuisine abroad, showcasing the variety and richness of traditional dishes that stand worthy in the market of Europe and beyond. With the Mediterranean diet and its many health benefits, we offer many vegetarian and vegan dishes made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Our founder, Kyrkos Zisis, is an expert in Greek cuisine and has collaborated with hotels and restaurants as a culinary advisor in several countries in the Eastern Mediterranean, including Lebanon, Egypt, and Turkey. Although he is based abroad, he is always open to collaborations in Greece, and believes that there should be a comprehensive guide to Greek cuisine and culinary culture written by experts in the field, folklorists, historians, and cooks.
